New schedule is here!

A new Shuttle Bus System schedule took effect on Tuesday, September 24, 2019.  Highlights of the new schedule include:


  • Predicted departure times for every normal stop.
  • Info about a new “Transit” app that smartphone users can upload to see real-time bus arrival predictions for all public bus routes in Vermont.
  • Rebranding of the Middlebury Shuttle’s “Route 7 South” as “Hannaford” to help visitors and new residents with wayfinding.
  • New Saturday service on the Middlebury Shuttle’s College route.
  • New midday service on the Tri-Town Bristol route.
  • Adjustments to Snow Bowl Off-Peak schedule to match rider usage.


Details of these changes and other schedule tweaks coming soon to  The September 24 schedule launch was supported by new schedule signage at all bus stops, new schedule brochures, and updated trip planner tools.  Riders may also call (802)388-2287 for information.  ACTR’s mission is to enhance the economic, social and environmental health of the region by providing public transportation services that are safe, reliable, accessible and affordable for everyone.

Discount Fares

  • Passengers five (5) and under ride free with a fare-paying passenger.
  • Passengers aged 6-17, age 60+ or with an ADA disability are eligible for ½ fare. Passengers can self-report their age or disability.

General Fare Info

  • Fares are collected on all ACTR bus routes except on the Middlebury Shuttle Bus and within the Fare-Free Zone (FFZ) in Middlebury
  • Only exact change, ACTR tokens or passes accepted on all buses. GMT buses do not accept ACTR tokens.
  • No fare; no ride

Fare Exceptions and Transfers

  • Monthly pass includes access to all GMT and local routes
  • Monthly pass good for 31 days from day of 1st use
  • $1 fare for in-county travel between Starksboro and Middlebury
  • Transfer pass available for use on local GMT system (valid for 1 hr); Transfer pass not valid on LINK routes
  • Valid Middlebury College Faculty/Staff ID accepted in lieu of fare
  • Valid student IDs accepted in lieu of fare: Champlain, NECI, St. Michael's and UVM
  • No transfer passes available to ACTR local bus routes; Fare must be paid to continue the trip on local routes
  • No fare collected in the Fare-Free Zone between downtown Middlebury and Lindale bus stop on Route 116

  • Deviations & Request Only Stops (R)

    Some ACTR stops along a route are listed as “R” or Request Only – either all of the time or during some parts of the day. Request Only stops follow the pick-up or drop-off procedures below, stopping at the nearest safe location.

    ACTR buses also deviate up to ½ mile (¼ mile for Rutland Connector and the Saturday Burlington LINK) from the published routes to pick up or drop off passengers.

    If the request for Deviation or Request Only pick-ups or drop-offs cannot be accommodated at the desired schedule time, per Federal Law, ACTR will provide the service up to 1 hour before or after the requested time.

    There are no deviations on the CCTA 116 Commuter or the Mon-Fri Burlington LINK routes.

    To request a DROP OFF

    Upon boarding, please let your driver know you would like a Deviation or a Request Only drop off. The driver will let you know if this can be accommodated right away or on the next loop. All attempts to accommodate requests will be made.

    To request a PICK UP

    All Pick Ups – whether a Deviation or Request Only Bus Stop – must be requested by calling the ACTR one business day (24 hours) in advance, or on Fridays for a Monday pick up.

    Dispatch staff will take the information, review the bus schedule and determine a Pick Up time. Per Federal Law, the ride will be accommodated either up to one hour before or one hour after the requested time. ACTR dispatch staff is available by phone between 7 am and 5 pm Monday – Friday.

  • Fare-Free Zone (FFZ)

    All ACTR bus routes allow for fare-free rides within the defined Fare-Free Zone (FFZ). The boundaries of the FFZ are the footprint of the Middlebury Shuttle route, Bridge School on Exchange Street to the North, Blue Spruce Motel on Route 7 to the South and Lindale Circle on Route 116 to the East.

  • Purchasing Passes

    10-Ride and Monthly Passes are available from:

    Bus Drivers: Exact change or a check required
    In-person: Community Transportation Center, 297 Creek Rd, Middlebury; Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

  • Token Program

    ACTR partners with local Human Service Agencies to provide tokens for riders in lieu of fares. ACTR tokens are accepted for one-way trips on all ACTR bus routes and the MVRTD Rutland Connector. CCTA buses do not accept tokens. To determine eligibility for the token program, contact a Human Service Agency or call 211 to learn more about community resources.
