ACTR Drivers Score in Top Three at Statewide Competition

May 10, 2017

On Saturday, May 6th, ACTR bus drivers Chris Scherer, Caitlin Porter and Maggie Surprenant joined drivers from all of Vermont’s rural public transportation providers to participate in the Vermont State Bus Roadeo, a fun-spirited skills competition sponsored by the Vermont Agency of Transportation.

Scherer and Porter placed second and third overall in the competition. Porter had the added distinction of a perfect score on the written exam. Surprenant also had an impressive day as she earned scores ranging from first to third in five of the competition events.

Green Mountain Transit hosted this year’s event which took place at the Barre Auditorium. The day provided unique learning and networking opportunities for bus operators to engage with other transit agency professionals.

“We are so proud of our team’s good spirit and outstanding performance at the Roadeo,” said Jim Moulton, Executive Director. “It’s great to see them celebrated for the complex work they do every day for the community. Chris, Caitlin, Maggie and all the drivers at ACTR work hard every day to be the best they can be. To see them prove themselves as among the very best in the state is incredibly gratifying.”

Regional Director Bill Cunningham added, “Getting people where they need to go requires our drivers to have great people skills, recall of turn instructions for nearly a hundred stops and remembering special requests. They perform all these tasks while maneuvering an extra-large vehicle through unpredictable traffic, adverse weather conditions and some really tight spaces. It’s an intricate job and they make it look easy. We are proud of them every day.”

ACTR enhances the economic, social and environmental health of the region, by providing community transportation services that are safe, reliable, accessible and affordable for everyone.
